From Moore Designs to Made by Moore
Alex and I have been designing and making metalwork for around twenty years. Initially we only did commissions - gates, railings and staircases, that sort of thing - for private customers and the odd architectural firm. Back then we traded under Alex's name, Alex Moore Artist Blacksmith. When the recession hit, lots of the large private projects we worked on dried up, so ever resourceful, we started making a range of standard products that we could sell to garden lovers country wide. Launching our new products deserved a new name and so we became Moore Designs a name that we felt could appeal to private customers and to corporates, hopefully making us all things to all people!
As Moore Designs we exhibited far and wide to spread awareness of our garden products, from our local garden show at Firle, to the Chelsea Flower Show, you name it, we exhibited there! We made lots of friends on the exhibition circuit and got to know our customers too. We built an online shop and sent our products to garden lovers throughout the UK and abroad. Designers and architects discovered our seating and we're proud to say that we have seats in Bloomingdale's in California, at Microsoft's and the Co-op's Head Office and in glamorous hotels. We've worked with some of the UK's top garden designers - Ann-Marie Powell is a favourite - and had our work in award-winning show gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court. We've work with Kew and the National Trust garden, Nymans and even had our seats used on Channel 4's Humans series.
Our old brand, Moore Designs, has done us proud, but we feel it's time for a change. We chose Made by Moore as our new name to emphasise the handmade quality of our work and to position us as a small family business and although Alex is a trained blacksmith, above all he's a maker. Apart from producing exquisite metalwork, he's equally skilled with wood and our new brand will allow us to offer anything he turns his hand to making in the future. The brand looks great online and our new website better showcases our products and has more flexibility. It will allow us to offer one-off pieces from time to time and the occasional seasonal product.
We're excited about our rebrand and hope you are too. Here's to the next 20 years!
